Since 2008, after Melanie, the founder of Itchy Moms, transferred the website to me, many ICP families affected by this condition have shown an interest in making donations. I am delighted to share with you that I am now able to receive donations and use them to help us participate in research that is new to the USA, Dr. Marcus Martineau's research in Rhode Island and also in the UK ICP / OC Research project.
Jenny Chambers from the United Kingdom is the founder of OC Support UK and also a member of the research group investigating this condition. She and Dr. Peter Dixon are collecting samples for DNA (genetic information) that scientists such as Dr. Dixon can understand how this condition is passed down through families. All of us in the USA who have had the condition can now help to build up their collection of samples by donating our saliva. It's so simple!
As with all research projects the importance of those willing to participate is invaluable. I look forward to being a part of recruiting those in the USA affected by ICP/OC, but we will need your financial support to make this project work; for example to help buy the saliva kits we will need to use. Your generosity will help pay for supplies such as saliva kits for this study. Please note the Itchy Moms website is funded voluntarily by me and any donations received will only be used to buy the kits, pay for postage and stationery costs.
You also have the option to send a check to Itchy Moms. I can give you the information, please contact me donna@itchymoms.com.
We will keep a running total on this page of the website to let you know how we are doing with the donations for the Saliva DNA study.
